I love being an orthodontist. Every morning I look forward to coming to the office and helping each of my patients achieve a wonderful smile that they can love. My journey to this point in life began in Ann Arbor, Michigan where I was born while my parents attended graduate school at the University of Michigan. One year later my family moved to Houston. I attended Westbury High School and then Brigham Young University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. After graduation I returned home to Houston to attend the University of Texas Dental Branch.
I love learning new things and serving others. I was blessed to have an opportunity to serve an LDS church mission to Campinas, Brazil for 2 years and became fluent in Portuguese. I am also proud to be an Eagle Scout, an Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society Member, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. I strive to uphold the highest of standards in both my personal and professional aspirations.
I love my family. During college I met my sweetheart, Amy and we are now the proud parents of 5 beautiful children (Hailey, Zach, Chloe, Molly & Ellie). Although being a dad is my favorite thing in the world, I also enjoy bike riding, skiing, fishing, riding roller coasters, photography, swimming and coaching my kids’ sports teams.
We love calling Katy our home and it is wonderful to live and practice in this great community. I am grateful to be a part of the lives of so many kids and families and commit myself to providing beautiful smiles, a caring attitude, a good example, and being a friend to all. I know that every smiles counts and I would love the opportunity and privilege of getting to know you and your family.
I was eight years old when I told my family, “I am going to be a dentist when I grow up.” My parents knew this was not simply the whimsical talk of a young boy.
Some might say dentistry is in my genes because my grandfather was a dentist. In fact, we even share the same name. He was the first Harold C. Stevenson. I am Harold C. Stevenson, III. I am certain my love of dentistry stemmed from my frequent visits to my grandfather’s office, where I had the opportunity to observe his skillful work. I loved seeing him in action, and was sure I too would someday help create beautiful smiles.
After declaring my intentions at an early age, followed by my years at Bellaire High School and while I was a college student at Texas Tech University, I never wavered in my passion for the dental field.
It was when I was in dental school at the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston that I decided to specialize in orthodontics, an advanced, specialty education. I also received my Masters of Science degree and orthodontic certification at UT-Dental.
I was the first full-time orthodontist in East Fort Bend County. I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, and for over forty years, I have been creating beautiful smiles, fulfilling my childhood dream.
I have the good fortune to live and work in the same community. My two grown children and four grandchildren also live here. You might even see me outside the office, whether as an Eagle Scout working with local Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops or along with my wife, Brenda, sponsoring and attending youth sports and mentoring students in the Katy ISD Partners in Education program. I am honored to be able to give back to the neighborhood that has supported me for so many years and want to say, Thank you.
I am fortunate enough to do what I love every day. Helping people obtain a beautiful smile and seeing their confidence grow brings me joy and I am very excited to be a part of the Hanis & Stevenson Orthodontics team!
I was raised in the small town of Marshfield, Missouri where I was taught to work hard, serve others and to always keep learning. I earned my Eagle Scout as a teenager and following graduation I served as a missionary for my church in Taipei, Taiwan for 2 years. During this time I became fluent in Mandarin Chinese ( 我說中文 ).
I later graduated with a degree in Biology from Brigham Young University-Idaho, following which I received my dental training at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. After graduating from dental school, I served as a dentist in the United States Air Force. During this time, I first completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska. My family and I were then stationed in Tokyo, Japan where I worked as a general dentist for 3 years at Yokota Air Base.
Serving my country gave me great appreciation for all those in uniform that protect our country every day. I always knew I wanted to be an orthodontist and following my active duty service in the Air Force I was selected to attend the prestigious University of Alabama in Birmingham for my Orthodontic residency. Aside from being an orthodontist, I have continued my service in the military and am a Major in the Air National Guard.
I met my sweet wife, Amy, in college on a blind date. Amy grew up in the Houston area and soon showed me Texas pride is deep and true bringing us back to her beloved state. We are blessed to have 4 wonderful children (William, Owen, Callan, and Ada). As a family, we enjoy being outdoors, camping, biking, playing sports and eating Blue Bell ice cream.
We are excited to make Katy our new home and I look forward to getting to know the great families in the area. Like Dr. Hanis, I am committed to providing beautiful smiles, a caring attitude, a good example and being a friend to everyone I come in contact with. Smile y’all!
